Psychologists have discovered that while reading a book or story, people are prone to subconsciously adopt their behavior, thoughts, beliefs and internal responses to that of fictional characters as if they were their own.
Experts have dubbed this subconscious phenomenon ‘experience-taking,’ where people actually change their own behaviors and thoughts to match those of a fictional character that they can identify with.

I am so glad people are looking into this because this is one of the reasons I feel I have to careful what I choose to read.
I have an over active imagination as it is and if I get too involved with a book I find myself “stuck” in the mind set. I couldn’t get through Dorian Gray and Frankenstein due to this very reason; too depressing in the first and too much guilty in the latter and they were not even my favourite characters!

Mm I’ve noticed this before, I thought I was just imagining things.
